We didn't set out to leave the grid behind — and we haven't. Our cabin is still hooked up. What we want is to be as self-sufficient as we reasonably can: grow more food, understand our power and water, fix what breaks, and keep learning how to push it further. A few winters, a couple of blown fuses, and one very cold morning without water later, we've learned a lot about what actually works when you take more of your household into your own hands. Peter keeps the solar humming and the tools in shape. Morgan tends the garden and the water systems. Together we write about the stuff we wish someone had explained when we started. No guru energy — just honest notes from two people still figuring it out, one season at a time.
